BachatPe Privacy Policy

Overview

BachatPe is a savings insights and expense tracking application developed by Tingle Works, designed for users in India. The app reads transaction-related SMS messages already present on your device to provide automatic expense categorization and spending insights. All SMS processing and data storage happen entirely on your device.

SMS Access

BachatPe requests SMS permission only after explicit user consent.

The app reads only transaction-related SMS messages already present on the device that are required for:

  • automatic expense detection
  • expense categorization
  • spending insights
  • savings analysis

Transaction SMS messages that are read are also stored locally on your device. See Data Storage for details.

BachatPe does not send SMS messages and cannot transfer money or perform banking transactions.

What BachatPe Ignores

BachatPe is designed to ignore and exclude:

  • OTPs and authentication messages
  • personal conversations and chats
  • marketing and promotional messages
  • non-transaction bank alerts (balance enquiries, login alerts)
  • failed or reversed transaction alerts
  • all other SMS that does not match a known transaction pattern

The app filters known transaction-related SMS patterns and does not intentionally process unrelated personal content.

Data Storage

All SMS processing and expense analysis happen entirely on your device.

BachatPe stores the following data locally in a database on your device:

  • SMS source records — the full text of matched transaction SMS messages, the sender’s phone number, and the received timestamp
  • Expense records — structured data extracted from each SMS: amount, merchant name, category, date, and payment method
  • Budgets, categories, and app settings — your personal configuration

None of this data is uploaded to external servers. BachatPe has no cloud storage or backend account system.

Android backups: Android’s Auto Backup feature may include app data in your Google account backup. This means your locally stored expense and SMS data could be included in standard Android device backups managed by Google. To opt out, you can disable Auto Backup for your device in your Android settings.

Data Sharing

BachatPe does not sell, rent, or share your SMS content or expense data with any third party.

BachatPe is distributed through the Google Play Store. Google may collect standard app installation and crash data under Google’s Privacy Policy. BachatPe does not receive or control any personal data through this channel.

Permissions

BachatPe requests the following permissions:

  • READ_SMS — to read transaction SMS messages already on your device
  • Notifications (optional) — for budget alerts and spending reminders
  • Bluetooth and nearby devices (optional) — used only for the Household Sharing feature to share expense data with nearby devices over a local connection; not used otherwise. On Android 12 and below, the system may show this as a Location permission — Android requires it for nearby-device discovery. BachatPe does not use, track, or store your physical location.

Granting READ_SMS is optional. If denied, you can still manually add and categorise expenses, and all other app features remain available.

Delete Data

You can delete all locally stored data — including SMS source records, expense history, budgets, and settings — from within the app at Settings → Delete All Data.

Uninstalling the app also permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.
BachatPe stores no data on external servers, so there is no account or server-side data to request deletion of.
Data is retained locally until you delete it or uninstall the app. There is no automatic expiry.

User-Initiated Sharing and Export

BachatPe may allow you to export expense data, share reports, or transfer selected expense records to another nearby device using the Household Sharing feature. These actions happen only when you choose to start them. BachatPe does not automatically upload, sell, or share your SMS or expense data with Tingle Works or third parties.

Household Sharing

If you use Household Sharing, selected expense records may be transferred directly to another nearby device using Android nearby-device/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi based local connectivity. No internet server, cloud account, or server backend is used for this transfer. The receiving device stores the imported expenses locally. Only start Household Sharing with people you trust.

Support Requests and Feedback

If you contact support or choose to send feedback, you may share information such as your email address, app version, device details, screenshots, issue description, and masked transaction SMS samples. This information is used only to troubleshoot and respond to your request. Do not send unmasked OTPs, account numbers, card numbers, or other sensitive information.

Age/eligibility

BachatPe is intended for users aged 18 and above. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from users under 18.

Future Updates

If future versions introduce internet connectivity, cloud sync, account systems, or third-party analytics, this Privacy Policy will be updated before those features are released. Users will be notified of material changes through an in-app notice on next launch.
